Comprehensive Epilepsy Care: A Multidisciplinary Approach

This course explores the high prevalence of mental health comorbidities in people with epilepsy and the challenges these patients encounter in accessing appropriate care. It examines the value of integrating mental health services within epilepsy care settings and reviews evidence from established integrated-care models, including routine screening and psychoeducational interventions. The course also addresses the broader spectrum of epilepsy-associated comorbidities—such as sleep–wake disorders, cardiovascular disease, cognitive dysfunction, and depression—and their impact on quality of life. Practical approaches to diagnosing and managing these comorbidities are outlined, emphasizing a holistic framework that supports comprehensive, patient-centred epilepsy care.
