Dirk Arnold is Director of the Asklepios Tumorzentrum Hamburg, a network cancer centre serving seven community hospitals in Hamburg, and Head of the Department of Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care at AK Altona. Prior to this, he was appointed Director of the University Cancer Centre Hamburg (UCCH) in 2010 and held academic positions in oncology and haematology at the universities of Halle-Wittenberg, Freiburg and Berlin. From 2015 to 2017, he served as Director of the Instituto CUF de Oncologia in Lisbon, Portugal. His main research focus is on gastrointestinal cancers, with particular interest in biomarker-driven treatment strategies and multimodal therapeutic approaches across disciplines. He has chaired the Colorectal Cancer Study Group of the German AIO, a major collaborative oncology network, and was a founding member of its Central Clinical Trials Office, reflecting his strong involvement in clinical research methodology. He is also engaged in the development of large collaborative research structures and integrated cancer centre networks. Prof. Arnold is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a Task Force member of the National Cancer Institute, and serves on the board of the EORTC Gastrointestinal Study Group. Within ESMO, he holds several leadership and advisory roles.
