Synopsis

This CME-accredited session addresses the growing relevance of chikungunya in Europe, focusing on the evolving epidemiological landscape, clinical burden, and preparedness strategies. The session will provide an overview of chikungunya virus transmission, vector distribution, and the environmental and societal drivers contributing to its spread across Europe. Faculty will discuss the clinical presentation and potential long-term complications of chikungunya infection, highlighting challenges in diagnosis and under-recognition in non-endemic settings. The webinar will also examine current approaches to prevention and preparedness, including surveillance, vector control, and emerging vaccination strategies. Through expert-led presentations and discussion, this session aims to enhance clinician awareness and support more effective identification, management, and prevention of chikungunya in the European context.

This activity is supported by an independent support grant from Bavarian Nordic
