Synopsis

Pediatric epilepsies are complex and tend to carry long-term consequences and comorbidities. In addition, they can arise from more complex syndromes and conditions, such as developmental and epileptic encephalopathies and brain malformations. To appropriately manage them, the International League Against Epilepsy has developed an updated terminology and classification system that improves diagnosis and care. This classification assists the neurologist in the identification of seizure type, epilepsy type, whether there is an epilepsy syndrome, etiology and comorbidities. This also leads to a more effective use of diagnostic tools such as genetic testing or imaging. If you want to learn about the new ILAE classification, developmental and epileptic encephalopathies and brain malformations, join us in this course! This activity is supported by an independent support grant from Illumina, administered by the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG).
