Synopsis

This CME-accredited session explores the evolving role of peri-operative systemic therapy in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), focusing on how treatment decisions influence surgical timing, treatment eligibility, and long-term patient outcomes. The session will examine key decision windows along the peri-operative pathway, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in optimizing treatment sequencing and reducing missed opportunities for curative-intent care. Participants will review the current treatment landscape, including contemporary peri-operative strategies, emerging biomarker-guided approaches, and the growing role of molecular residual disease assessment in informing clinical decision-making. The course will also address system-level factors that influence treatment delivery and present structured approaches to peri-operative planning aimed at improving patient-centered care and outcomes in MIBC.

This activity is supported by an independent grant from Astellas

Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be better prepared to:

  • Describe how peri-operative systemic therapy decision-making influences surgical timing and eligibility for subsequent treatment in patients with MIBC
  • Identify key peri-operative decision windows in MIBC where timely MDT involvement impacts treatment sequencing and patient outcomes
