Synopsis

This CME-accredited session focuses on how multidisciplinary teams can embed forward-planned peri-operative decision-making into routine care for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Building on earlier discussions of the treatment landscape and real-world case scenarios, the course explores how early MDT escalation, coordinated systemic therapy assessment, surgical scheduling, and clear pathway ownership can improve treatment sequencing and reduce missed opportunities. Participants will examine practical approaches to MDT coordination, including triggers for early discussion and re-discussion, alignment between urology and medical oncology, documentation of treatment plans, and institutional strategies such as referral checklists, case management, and structured patient follow-up. The session highlights the importance of shared responsibility, timely reassessment, and coordinated implementation to support consistent, patient-centred peri-operative care in MIBC.

This activity is supported by an independent grant from Astellas, Pfizer

Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be better prepared to:

  • Explain how peri-operative systemic therapy decisions in MIBC influence surgical timing and eligibility for post-operative treatment.
  • Apply MDT-informed clinical reasoning to peri-operative MIBC case scenarios to determine appropriate sequencing of surgery and systemic therapy.
